Letter : Bedford Square [London] to Beatrice Smith, Edinburgh, 2 Jan. 1854.

Wishing her a Happy New Year and suggesting that Mr. [George] Combe apply for government aid for his schools, as "they have ... admitted Jew schools and it is really so plain & palpable an injustice to refuse aid to the Jewish portion of Her Majesty's subjects .... Government people w[oul]d be quite willing to admit the fairness of the claim." Mentions an article praising Matthew Arnold's poems by [James Anthony] Froude.
